It has been confirmed by medical consultancy and services provider, Safe MMA, that the professional fight card of new signee British Challenge Mixed Martial Arts has been medically cleared for Saturday’s BCMMA 12 at Charter Hall in Colchester, Essex (UK).
British Challenge Mixed Martial Arts is working with the United Kingdom Mixed Martial Arts Federation to meet full sanctioning requirements for 2016, which include following Safe MMA medical protocol. The promotion has also hired UKMMAF trained and certified officials for the event, at which further peer assessment will be carried out. Sanctioning inspectors will also be present to oversee proceedings and to give feedback post-event as part of the partnership.
BCMMA co-promoter, Jack Mason, said:
“We at BCMMA just want to say thank you to all the fighters competing on the card for being so professional in getting their bloods and medicals done so promptly, and for the help from the Safe MMA staff, that have enabled us to get the green light for the show with half a week to spare. This is a big step forward for a small grass roots show like BCMMA and it’s a great achievement for our first Safe MMA event. We are really looking forward to Saturday night and an incredible night of MMA action that includes UFC veterans, international competition and the cream of local talent.”
The UKMMAF issued this statement:
“Many regional shows have been tentative to commit to recommended minimum safety standards, which promoters and gyms owe to the athlete. BCMMA promoters Jack Mason and Chris Cook have disproved cynics by coming through with flying colours and without fuss in ensuring that their professional fighters have all met basic medical criteria, such as passing a general physical examination and clearing blood tests for viruses that include HIV. They have successfully managed the cost of hiring a fully equipped and qualified doctor led medical team for the show, essential to managing any medical emergency. BCMMA 12 is a flagship event in the UK in terms of raising the bar for British MMA in 2015. We thank the athletes, coaches, managers and the BCMMA team for their commitment, especially in the face of late fight card changes, and wish everyone the best of luck for Saturday night.”
